Years Guiding?

Who introduced you to fly fishing?

My father Klay Mangis

Can you tell us a little about your home waters and the fish you pursue there?

The snake river runs through my back door, which is home to the fine spotted cutthroat trout. Its right at the base of the teton mountian range. We have three other rivers, the green, new fork, and salt river, which offer browns, rainbows and cutthroat trout, just a short drive away.

What's the height of the season for you? What time of year is your personal favorite?

Our season starts the end of March and ends October. With the days getting longer and warmer, our run off begins May and ends the middle of June. My favorite time of the year is early July and all the way into the late fall.

What are your favorite travel destinations? What's on the bucket list?

Alaska has been my favorite placed that I have been to and fished. New Zealand is on my bucket list for the brown trout.

What do you like most about Thomas and Thomas rods? Which rods do you fish?

The craftsmanship of the rod and how smooth they cast, in my opinion they are the best rods on the market. I use the 4wt Avantt.

What's your current go-to fly?

I would normaly tell you a dry fly but with winning the "One Fly" this year with a streamer, I am going to have to go with the "JM Chicklet" a olive and white streamer.

Other than fly tackle, what piece of gear do you find indispensable?

My hyde drift boat and good water to put it in , thankfully in the state of wyoming there is no shortage of good rivers.

My favorite thing about guiding is:

That my "office" is on the water and getting to share my passion of fly fishing with different people day in and day out.

From the angler’s point of view, what do you see as the main value of going on a guided trip?

Going to a new place you have no idea whats been working for flies or which section of water to spend your time in. The guide has already done the homework on what flies to tie on and the water you should spend your time on for the day.

What can new fisherman expect to get out of a guided trip? My favorite thing to teach a client is ...

The itch for the game, how fun flyfishing can actually be. Helping them learn to catch their first fish on a fly rod

What's your ideal lunch when on the water? What do you actually pack?

When the fishing is to good I do not have time to be thinking about lunch, but you cannot go wrong with a good italian sandwhich and salt and viniger patato chips.

What fly fishing blogs/magazines do you read regularly?

I do not read much, I would rather be on the water or watching fishing videos.

When I'm not fishing you'll find me

With my wife Kaitlyn and my two kids Marlow and Slayton fishing the river or riding horses.
